Cybera Launches Managed Wireless Broadband Portfolio
New service already deployed by numerous enterprise-class merchant customers

NEW YORK (NRF BOOTH #361) — JANUARY 14, 2008 —Cybera, a leading MPLS-based managed service provider, today announced the first private, managed wireless broadband portfolio aimed at enterprise-class customers whose business models require fast install times, lower cost and complexity, and broadband performance and reliability. Now in general availability, Cybera’s SmartLink Wireless Broadband has emerged from an extensive pilot period with a select group of enterprise-class customers where the product successfully met their robust and diverse broadband requirements. Demonstrating the performance and satisfaction associated with the product family, each of the ten enterprise customers who participated in Cybera’s pilot program have chosen to deploy the product in their production environments.

Also today, Cybera separately announced that retailer Shoe Pavilion has selected Cybera to provide network services to its stores. The company evaluated Cybera’s new Wireless Broadband service prior to purchasing, and has chosen to implement several store sites with the new product. “The current retail climate dictates that broadband technology be as flexible as the business demands,” said Cliff Duffey, CEO and president, Cybera. “We’ve listened to our customers, and have developed a family of compelling solutions. As an example for enterprises wanting to migrate away from satellite, we’re implementing wireless broadband as a solution—and getting great feedback. And, with install intervals of a week or less our managed wireless broadband services help mitigate the cost and wiring challenges that can complicate broadband rollouts. ”

Reliable Broadband Application Performance
The SmartLink Wireless Broadband managed service is preferred for companies who desire to reduce the cost of wiring often associated with the upgrade to a broadband network without sacrificing performance and reliability. Most business-critical applications in use in today’s merchant environment—including order and inventory management, transaction processing, enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, and workforce and training systems—require a broadband network to operate. In fact, many businesses upgrading from dialup networking to broadband are doing so because they have undertaken an application upgrade that necessitates the change.

Cybera’s SmartLink Wireless Broadband is ideally suited to IP-enabled applications such as:

  • Credit and debit card transactions
  • Back office applications, e.g. enterprise resource planning
  • Order and inventory management
  • Point of sale (POS)
  • Email and Internet access
  • Digital video recording (DVR) security systems

Designed and Implemented for PCI Compliance
Cybera’s SmartLink Wireless Broadband has passed a thorough PCI compliance audit by a third party auditor. Merchant customers must meet complex regulatory compliance mandates, including the payment card industry data security standard (PCI DSS), a credit card industry program intended to protect sensitive cardholder data linked to transactions. To address this important requirement, the SmartLink Wireless Broadband architecture is private and does not use the public Internet infrastructure to transmit transactions, where cardholder data could be subject to security threats, viruses, and malware.

A Portfolio of Proven Business Solutions
Cybera’s products are focused on meeting the needs of multi-site businesses in the retail, restaurant, convenience store, consumer finance, and retail healthcare industries. The SmartLink Wireless Broadband product portfolio, based on industry-leading intelligent platforms from Cisco Systems and Sierra Wireless, is offered to meet these needs by segmenting them into three distinct products: Primary Access, Rapid Deployment Kit, and Broadband Backup.

Primary Access—Reduced Cost and Complexity for Difficult Locations
Capable of operating at broadband speeds, the primary access option has lower latency than satellite access and can be installed in a matter of days—up to 75 percent faster than carrier-provided terrestrial broadband options. SmartLink Wireless Broadband is an effective private wide area networking access option for businesses who require a private broadband network but who want to reduce the cost and complexity of inside wiring at difficult sites such as malls and shopping centers with older telecommunications infrastructure.

Rapid Deployment Kit—Accelerated Store Grand Openings
For companies who need short-term wireless broadband access for store grand openings, Cybera offers a solution. SmartLink Wireless Broadband can bridge the gap until a permanent form of access can be installed at new construction sites or remodel efforts. Requiring no phone line, the rapid deployment kit ships with everything needed to quickly install broadband to help a merchant go from no connectivity to broadband in a matter of days. After a pre-set term, the kit can be seamlessly converted to permanent primary broadband access in either wired or wireless types.

Broadband Backup—Improved Resiliency for Business Operations
Today’s 24x7x365 application environment requires maximum uptime. To help enterprises achieve this high network and application availability even in a potential service interruption scenario, Cybera’s SmartLink Wireless Broadband creates an alternate broadband link to the core, so that all applications continue operating, maintaining productivity and customer satisfaction. Many backup options are tied to the same physical facilities as primary access. The Wireless Broadband solution provides diverse routing, reducing the risk associated with both primary and backup sharing the same link. Additionally, Wireless Broadband eliminates the potential concern that per minute charges will result in high variable costs when a link is in backup mode.  Cybera’s SmartLink Wireless Broadband is an economically viable fully redundant broadband link.

A Fully Managed Network
A key benefit of the Cybera approach—whether wireless broadband or another form of secure, business-class broadband access—is the proactive management of the network. Before a customer’s network is installed, it is professionally designed using enterprise-class hardware from leading vendors such as Juniper Networks and Cisco Systems. Throughout the implementation process, a dedicated project manager oversees each customer’s network rollout. To round out the comprehensive managed service, technicians from our Solutions Management Center proactively isolate, diagnose, and troubleshoot potential service interruptions to help ensure customers’ maximum network performance and reliability.
